    Refoel Reuven is back in Kessler Rehab and he now has to be weaned off the trache and learn to breathe on his own. He unfortunately has a painful bed sore on his back as a result of his prolonged time on the oscillator when he was required to lie completely still on his back.     We are so grateful to the community here in West Orange, NJ, who have embraced us and helped us so much over the past few weeks. Every Shabbos there is a minyan of men who walk to Kessler for davening and then make a kiddush for all of the Jewish patients and families in Kessler.     Ruvi is wearing splints on his arms and has casts on his legs to help stretch out his muscles. He is spastic, which means that his muscles have tightened up drastically.     Therapists are working hard to elicit any voluntary response by following a command. He is asked to blink, or lift a finger, or track with his eyes. We aren’t sure if he is aware of what is going on around him but he is unable to indicate it or if he is cognitively unaware. We will keep trying to elicit a meaningful response and hope to see him…

    Baruch Hashem Ruvi was transferred to Children’s Specialized Hospital (New Brunswick, NJ) which has a comprehensive rehab program. We are hoping and davening that this next stage will bring Ruvi a refuah shelaima. May Hashem answer all our tefillos and enable this team of medical professionals to be the right shlichim.

    Ruvi has been moved out of the ICU and is breathing on his own. He is not responsive but he has involuntary movement, including opening his eyes. We had a special visitors who came by to give Ruvi brachos and wish him well. Below is one picture of Ruvi receiving a heartfelt bracha.

    Purim
    Though Purim was very difficult for us this year, we are so grateful to Ruvi’s amazing classmates who trudged through the snow and came to our home to dance and sing and bring us joy. They gave us a beautiful mishloach manos with a heartfelt letter that we treasure.

    Ruvi was b’H extubated last week and the doctors are pleased with how he is progressing medically. The doctors are discussing that he may be able to be moved out of the ICU.     We were hopeful that Ruvi was getting better but his body went into shock today. He is back on the respirator and on his medications. His blood pressure dropped very low and he is once again in critical condition.
